Nika Nuova

Nika Nuova is a textile artist whose background spans diverse fields, from fashion to product design. Guided by a strong awareness of the social and environmental implications of creative production, her practice has naturally evolved toward the creation of wall sculptures. She chooses textile materials for their remarkable versatility and unique ability to convey complex stories – making them immediately tangible and emotionally resonant. Each creation invites the viewer to move beyond aesthetics.
“My education has had a direct impact on my current work. I spent a significant amount of time designing clothes, but eventually I stepped away from that path. I longed for greater abstraction and freedom. Clothing is tied to the body, imposing certain limitations; it subjugates the material to its function. Textiles themselves, however, are among humanity’s greatest inventions, rich with patterns, histories, and meanings. This diversity fuels my art, allowing me to create something new from what already exists — work that stands as a complete piece in its own right. I wanted to move away from the industrialization of art and create objects that feel more authentic, reflecting who I am rather than following trends. My love for textiles has always been my driving force. I am especially drawn to vintage fabrics, which carry additional layers of memory and narrative.
I prefer to tell that story and give the material a new life, imbuing it with a new aesthetic and form. While I admire classical tapestries, I use existing textile structures and motifs as points of departure, transforming them into entirely new art objects.”
